The record
An official file preserves that a report was made and examined. It does not, by itself, establish what was seen.
- Air Ministry, Deputy Directorate of Intelligence (Technical) DDI(Tech) report of 30 April 1957 on the radar observations at RAF West Freugh (opens in a new tab)
Part of the chain is attached. The rest is still being retrieved.
What is not settled
Entirely instrument-based, no occupant content. Radar-only anomalies of this era are routinely attributable to anomalous propagation, and the reported parameters are consistent with a high-altitude balloon seen through unusual propagation.
