The record
An official file preserves that a report was made and examined. It does not, by itself, establish what was seen.
- USAF / Project Blue Book, 34th Air Division Blue Book case file, Vicinity Levelland, Texas, 2-3 Nov 1957 (opens in a new tab)
The document is attached to this entry.
What is not settled
Blue Book's stated conclusion is in the file: probably ball lightning, with St Elmo's fire invoked and the stalling attributed to moisture on distributor parts. The file also shows the on-site investigation lasted about seven hours by one investigator. A separate 7 Nov 1957 Levelland file exists (frame 6781581, Insufficient Data) - do not confuse them.
